Petzl Rock & Road Trip 2009

This Year the PETZL Rock and Road trip will take place from the 17 to 27 July and will be moving around the Eastern Cape exploring the huge potential this area has. This year we plan to undertake a more genuine road trip, visiting more places further apart. We also will put in one day of bouldering to balance things a bit. All top SA sport climbers must enter themselves on the world ranking selection system at www.8a.nu.  Based on their position on this ranking system we will select competitors according to the following guidelines:

• - Best 5 men and 4 ladies from W Cape
• - Best 4 men and best 3 ladies from KZN
• - Best 4 men and 3 ladies from GP
• - Best 2 climbers from the remaining provinces
• - Best 2 climbers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds

The deadline date will be 1 July when the selection will be made.

The Real Cost of Bottled Water

According to a 2001 report of the Worldwide Fund for Nature WWF,  roughly 1.5 million tons of plastic are expended in the bottling of 89 billion litres of water each year. Those figures will have risen considerably by now, as the water bottled water industry is one of the fastest growing industries on earth.

Besides the sheer number of plastic bottles produced each year, the energy required to manufacture and transport these bottles to market severely drains limited fossil fuels. Bottled water companies, due to their unregulated use of valuable resources and their production of billions of plastic bottles have presented a significant strain on the environment

The authors of the WWF report suggested that water bottles be washed and reused in order to lessen their negative impact on the environment. Unfortunately, reusing plastic bottles further compromises the quality of the water, due to the fact that more and more phthalate leaches its way into the water as the bottle gets older.

The solution: Reusable bottles such as the NALGENE EVERYDAY range of BPA-free bottles, in conjunction with a water filter where necessary.
